The Hainan Betel Nut Valley Li and Miao Cultural Tourism Area was established in 1998, located at 18 degrees north latitude, within the Ganshiling Nature Reserve at the border between Baoting County and Sanya City. The scenic area is nestled among tens of thousands of graceful and charming betel nut trees, surrounded by ancient towering trees and intertwined vines of tropical rainforests, with a planned area of over 5,000 acres. It is 26 kilometers away from the Yalong Bay coast and 28 kilometers away from the center of Sanya City. Betel Nut Valley got its name because of the layered forests on both sides and the continuous betel nut valley in the middle that stretches for several kilometers. The scenic area consists of seven cultural experience areas: the Intangible Cultural Heritage Village, Ganshili Village, Guyin Miao Family, Tianye Li Family, "Betel Nut · Ancient Rhythm" large-scale live performance, Orchid Chalet, and Li and Miao flavor food street, all featuring beautiful scenery. The scenic area also displays ten national intangible cultural heritages, among which the "Li ethnic group's traditional spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery skills" have been included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding list. Betel Nut Valley is also one of the main venues for the traditional "Third Day of the Third Month" and "Qixi Water Splashing Festival" of the Li and Miao ethnic groups in Hainan, full of cultural charm, and is known as the "living fossil" of Hainan's ethnic culture.
